QJET’s Sustainability and Environmental Management System (EMS)

QJET’s approach to sustainability is underpinned by a structured Environmental Management System (EMS) that ensures its fuel operations at Hamad International Airport (HIA) are safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible. While QJET is not currently ISO 14001 certified, its EMS is aligned with global environmental management standards and best practices, supporting Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development under Qatar National Vision 2030.

Purpose and Scope of the EMS

The EMS provides a formal framework to identify, manage, and reduce the environmental impact of QJET’s activities, its EMS aligns:
•    Into-Plane Fueling Services
•    Fuel Storage and Distribution Facilities
•    Fleet Maintenance Operations within HIA
•    Emergency Spill Response and Waste Management
This system is applied across all QJET activities at Hamad International Airport (HIA) and is fully integrated with the company’s Quality and Safety Management Systems to ensure cohesive and responsible operations.

QJET’s Environmental Management System (EMS):

Core Commitments and Control Measures:

QJET’s EMS is built on four fundamental environmental pillars that guide all operational practices::
•    Pollution Prevention: All fueling and storage operations are engineered to minimize the risk of spills, soil or groundwater contamination, and harmful air emissions.
•    Resource Efficiency: Continuous efforts are made to reduce fuel losses, optimize equipment utilization, and minimize energy and water consumption across operations.
•    Legal and Regulatory Compliance: The EMS ensures full compliance with Qatari environmental laws, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) requirements, and Hamad International Airport’s (HIA) environmental policies.
•    Environmental Awareness and Training: All employees receive targeted training in fuel safety, spill prevention, waste management, and environmentally safe operating procedures.

To manage and reduce its environmental footprint, QJET enforces operational controls through its EMS::
•    Fuel Spill Prevention Systems: All refueling vehicles and fuel storage tanks are equipped with automatic shut-off valves, containment systems, and leak detection sensors to mitigate spill risks.
•    Stormwater and Drainage Control: Oil-water separators and containment channels are installed at storage areas to prevent hydrocarbon runoff from entering the airport’s drainage systems.
•    Waste Segregation and Disposal: Waste generated from operations (e.g., used filters, fuel residues, and packaging) is properly segregated and disposed of through licensed environmental service providers, in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

As an integral part of the EMS, QJET maintains a robust Emergency Response Plan developed in coordination with HIA emergency services and regulatory authorities. Key components include:
•    Pre-positioned Spill Response Equipment: Spill kits and containment booms are readily available at all fueling zones and storage depots.
•    Staff Training and Drills: Regular emergency drills and scenario-based training sessions are conducted to ensure personnel can respond swiftly and effectively to any environmental incident.
•    Incident reporting and investigation procedures to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.

Monitoring, Review, and Improvement

The EMS incorporates a built-in system for ongoing performance evaluation and continuous improvement:
•    Environmental Performance Metrics: Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as number of spills, quantity of waste volume generated, and fuel loss percentages are monitored and reported quarterly.
•    Internal Audits and Management Reviews: Regular environmental audits are regularly conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of control measures and to identify opportunities for improvement.
•    Corrective and Preventive Action System: Any deviations or incidents are documented and addressed through a formal action plan focused on long-term sustainability."
